Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi addressed a press conference at Indira Bhawan in New Delhi on Wednesday amid the ongoing nationwide protests over alleged examination paper leaks and police action against students. During the briefing, Gandhi accused the Central Government of failing to protect the country’s education system and claimed that repeated examination irregularities had shattered the trust of millions of young aspirants.
Rahul Gandhi alleged that 152 examination paper leaks had occurred over the past ten years, affecting nearly 7.5 crore students across the country. Calling India’s education system “rigged,” he said the recurring leaks had robbed deserving students of fair opportunities and damaged their future. He demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, holding the government politically accountable for what he described as repeated administrative failures.
Referring to the recent police action against protesting students in Delhi, Gandhi asserted that “students are not terrorists” and said action should instead be taken against those responsible for examination irregularities and the alleged assault on demonstrators. He reiterated the Opposition’s support for the student movement, urged the government to ensure transparency in recruitment and competitive examinations, and called for strict legal action against those involved in paper leak networks. The press conference came a day after heightened political tensions and demonstrations over the issue, with the Opposition intensifying its demand for education reforms and greater accountability.
