Police Crackdown on Hookah Bars in Jaipur: Three Managers Arrested, Establishments Shut Down

 

Jaipur: In a major crackdown on illegal hookah bars, Jaipur Police raided three clubs over three consecutive days, leading to the arrest of three managers and the closure of these establishments. The action was carried out at Débola Café, The Den Café, and Too High Club, all located in the Jawahar Circle area. A total of 24 individuals were booked under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA).

Coordinated Police Action

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, Tejaswini Gautam, stated that orders were issued to all police stations to take strict action against cafés operating beyond permissible hours and serving hookah illegally. A special team was formed under the leadership of Additional DCP East Asharam Chaudhary, ACP Malviya Nagar Aditya Poonia, and CI Jawahar Circle Madan Lal Kadwasara to conduct the raids. FIRs were registered, and the illegal hookah bars were shut down.

First Raid – Débola Café (February 11)

Upon receiving information about illegal hookah service, Sub-Inspector Shyam Prakash and his team raided Débola Café, located behind WTP (World Trade Park). During the inspection, officers found three hookahs, three pipes, and burning coal in chillums filled with flavored tobacco. The café manager, Ajay Jatav, was immediately arrested.

Second Raid – The Den Café (February 12)

A day later, on February 12, police received reports that The Den Café, also behind WTP, was illegally serving hookah. SI Shyam Prakash and his team raided the café, where a staff member was caught offering hookah to customers. The café manager, Abhishek Mahawar, was detained on the spot.

Third Raid – Too High Club (February 13)

On February 13, police received information that Too High Club, located on the second floor of Gaurav Tower, was running an illegal hookah lounge. Acting swiftly, SI Shyam Prakash and his team raided the club, confirming the violation. The manager, Anil Kumar Mahawar, was arrested.

Strict Action Against Illegal Hookah Bars

The Jaipur Police have intensified their drive against illegal hookah lounges operating in the city. DCP Tejaswini Gautam reiterated that strict action will continue against establishments violating tobacco and public safety laws. Authorities have also warned café and club owners against engaging in such illegal activities, stating that any future violations will result in severe legal consequences.
