Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday issued his first public statement after days of nationwide student protests over alleged examination paper leaks and youth-related concerns. In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth,” while announcing a series of measures aimed at restoring students’ confidence in the examination system.
The Prime Minister announced that the government would establish fast-track courts to ensure speedy trials in examination paper leak cases and promised strict action against those responsible for compromising the future of students. He also reiterated the Centre’s commitment to protecting the integrity of competitive examinations and ensuring that deserving candidates receive justice.
Modi’s statement came after widespread protests across several cities, where students demanded accountability over repeated examination irregularities, transparency in recruitment, and stronger safeguards against paper leaks. Demonstrations in Delhi and other parts of the country witnessed clashes with police, while opposition parties and civil society groups also voiced support for the protesting students.
While the government’s announcement has been welcomed by some as a step toward reform, many student groups have maintained that their key demands—including greater accountability and systemic changes in the examination process—remain unresolved. Protest leaders have indicated that the movement will continue until concrete action is taken, making the coming days crucial for both the government and the student community.
